Dorset Printer's Pie

The Dorset Branch re-formed in 1983 after Ron & Jean Watson moved to the Bournemouth area and were contacted by the secretary. He explained that while there were several members in the current branch, they were not actually taking part in regular meetings.

Following the first meeting Ron Watson was elected as chairman and holds that position to this day. These meetings took place monthly and still do today.

A few years later in 1988, the membership, which numbered more than 12, decided to produce a booklet which allowed members to contribute a printed page or two. A title was discussed and the "Dorset Printer's Pie" was born. The Pie block was created by John Liddell, who was a renowned printmaker and co-founder of Poole Printmakers, to whom he left his Columbian Press after his death a few years later.

The booklet covers a wide variety of topics and is bound using different methods. Later the Dorset members decided to enter the booklet into the Bernard Rosen Award, which was created in memory of Bernard Rosen, who was instrumental in helping to form branches where-ever he lived.

Every month at Stratton Village Hall, Dorchester.

Following a short lunch where members bring their own refreshments, the members take part in a practical session. This can be on any topic connected with printing and binding. These meetings start at 12.30pm and last for 2 hours.
