Bristol Branch

The façade of the Edward Everard Printing Works, Broad Street, Bristol

Bristol is a City with a long history of commercial printing and was the birthplace of the British Printing Society in 1944.  The BPS has had a Bristol Branch for much of its history, drawing its membership from the local printing trade.  The Branch has very recently reformed, and now also attracts a new generation of printer thanks to the resurgence in Letterpress printing and the book arts.  The result is a small but active branch membership from a wide range of printing backgrounds and interests, not just from Bristol, but also from Bath, Stroud and beyond.

Although Bristol’s traditional printing industry has contracted in recent decades, the City’s strong association with books and printing is carried forward by the University of the West of England Centre for Fine Print Research, Bristol University, The Bristol Letterpress Collective and Spike Print Studio on Bristol’s harbourside.
